Carson Kvapil, Spencer Davis earn victories at South Boston Speedway

According to Carson Kvapil, his victory in the 125-lap zMAX CARS Late Model Stock Car Tour race, which was the main event of the Autos By Nelson 280 at South Boston Speedway on Saturday night, represents a form of redemption.

After winning the race in 2022 and the SoBo 200 last year before being disqualified, the resident of Mooresville, North Carolina expressed that returning to the CARS Tour and achieving victory was a form of redemption for him, following his second career win at South Boston Speedway.

Winning at South Boston is always a great feeling. I make sure to highlight this track every year because I am confident in our performance and the quality of our cars here.

Kvapil secured his third victory of the season in the zMAX CARS Late Model Stock Car Tour, earning a prize of $7,000.

Ryan Millington, the pole winner, dominated most of the race by leading the first 100 laps. However, Kvapil surprised everyone by swiftly moving to the inside on the last restart, passing Millington. Kvapil then extended his lead over Millington and ultimately crossed the finish line 1.819 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, Treyten Lapcevich from Grimsby, Ontario. Millington, who lost second place in the final laps, finished third.

Kvapil explained that he needed to aggressively overtake his opponent to gain track position and hopefully force him off the racing line to take the lead. He successfully executed this strategy and managed to pull away once he had a clear path.

Millington said he had a good night despite losing the lead late in the race and having to settle for third place.

“Carson tried to do a slide job on me,” said the Statesville, North Carolina resident. “It was a pretty good move, to be honest. To walk out of here with a pole win and a third-place finish is a pretty good night.”

Lapcevich achieved a positive outcome with his second-place finish during his inaugural race at the .4-mile oval.

Lapcevich described the 125-lap race as challenging. He mentioned that he struggled to overtake Millington earlier in the race, which prevented him from executing his strategy. Although finishing second was disappointing, Lapcevich enjoyed his first experience at South Boston Speedway and looks forward to returning next year.

Layne Riggs from Bahama, North Carolina, a former South Boston Speedway and NASCAR national champion, secured a fourth-place finish after being competitive throughout the race. Brenden Queen from Chesapeake, Virginia, completed the top five finishers.

Mini Tyrell from Manassas, Virginia, Connor Hall from Hampton, Virginia, who is the current points leader, Peyton Sellers from Danville, Virginia, the 2024 South Boston Speedway champion, Buddy Isles Jr. from Littleton, North Carolina, and Bobby McCarty from Madison, North Carolina, a former South Boston winner, completed the top 10 finishers in the 125-lap race.

The championship in the zMAX CARS Late Model Stock Car Tour will be determined by only two remaining races.

Spencer Davis Wins 100-lap zMAX CARS Pro Late Model Tour Race

Spencer Davis from Dawsonville, Georgia secured his second victory of the season at the zMAX CARS Pro Late Model Tour and clinched his inaugural CARS Tour win at South Boston Speedway on Saturday night. This triumph came in the 100-lap race for the zMAX CARS Pro Late Model Tour, which served as the co-feature event of the Autos By Nelson 280 at South Boston Speedway.

With 26 laps remaining, Davis overtook Tristan McKee of Hampton, Virginia, and finished 1.384 seconds ahead of McKee to claim victory.

The top five finishers included Caden Kvapil from Mooresville, North Carolina, Kaden Honeycutt from Aledo, Texas, and T.J. DeCaire from Land O’ Lakes, Florida.

Spencer and McKee exchanged the lead three times, with McKee leading for a combined 55 laps and Davis leading for a combined 45 laps.

Four caution periods and one red flag caused the race to slow down.
