Cole Falloway continued to enhance his comfort at Volusia Speedway Park with his second consecutive Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals victory on Saturday night.
The Owensboro, KY driver maximized the 25 laps on Saturday night to increase his speed and familiarity with “The World’s Fastest Half Mile,” leading a competitive field of DIRTcar UMP Modifieds from start to finish.
Falloway and Thursday’s Feature winner Curt Spalding began the night’s racing with an immediate duel for the lead. Falloway secured the top position with a high-line maneuver through Turns 1 and 2, similar to how he led for his first-career Gator on Friday.
Spalding struggled to control the No.5CS Modified’s power and dropped out of the top five. This opened opportunities for Trevor Neville, David Stremme, and Kyle Strickler to pass the Watervliet, MI driver and pursue the leading driver, Falloway.
Heartbreak hit Neville for the second consecutive night as a spin on Lap 10 dashed the Mackinaw, IL driver’s hopes of winning the night’s Feature after running in a podium position.
Reflecting Friday night’s order, Falloway led Stremme, Strickler, and Will Krup to contest the remaining 15 laps. Strickler claimed third place from Stremme, while Krup moved into second place.
Falloway extended his lead to over three seconds on Krup until a caution on Lap 18 gave the UMP Modifieds another chance at contending for the night’s Feature win.
Strickler took second from Krup on the restart but couldn’t close the gap on Falloway’s No.66, as the lead expanded to over five seconds by the time he crossed the finish line for his second DIRTcar Nationals Gator in three career starts at Volusia Speedway Park.
“A lot of it was me getting comfortable,” Falloway said. “Like I said last night, I wasn’t very comfortable, and the more laps I get to make, the more comfortable I continue to get with this place.”
